The readings belong to the national weather services that made them. If you reuse a figure, cite the observing network, which is named beside every number on this site. A link back here is welcome but is not what the data needs.
Everything ranked here is air temperature at a weather station. Satellite ground readings are a different measurement and are kept in their own clearly marked rows. Do not compare the two.
A daily leaderboard covers a UTC day, so it is not a local calendar day everywhere. Times shown next to a reading are the station’s own local time.
Unless a figure is marked as verified by an authority, it is the extreme of the data we hold, over the period we name. That is a different claim from a national or world record. How we verify.
